Culture & Leisure in Wandsworth

Restaurants & Bars

Wandsworth residents enjoy access to an unusually diverse and rich array of restaurants, cafes and other dining options. This part of London is home to many cultures from across the world; here, old- fashioned British cooking sits alongside contemporary interpretations of international cuisine.

Along Bellevue Road, as well as experiencing elegant pub food at the Althorpe, diners can experience something truly special by visiting the Michelin-starred Chez Bruce. The immensely popular restaurant, which offers refined French cuisine, provides both lunchtime and evening menus; a visit is perfect as a treat or for a romantic evening.

Old York Road in Wandsworth Town is a culinary treasure trove - our Wandsworth Estate Agents particularly rate the upmarket take on pub food available at The Alma. This gastropub offers an excellent range of beverages and a classic, refined menu in an attractive setting which combines contemporary and period style. Also along Old York Road there are a range of excellent cafes and lunchtime eateries - we recommend the excellent Brew Cafe.

Cultural Landmarks

The RAM Brewery is a landmark at the heart of the local culture of Wandsworth. Brewing beer since the 1500s, the site represents the local area’s industrial roots, which the recent pedestrianisation of Old York Road is respectful of. The site’s new incarnation will be called The Ram Quarter and will retain and support the heritage buildings which have long defined the area, while sensitively bringing the redevelopment of 338 new apartments into line with Wandsworth’s character. Residents of Wandsworth can also look forward to more integrated links between Old York Road and Southside Centre.

A great way to explore any part of London which lines the Thames is to explore the riverside, and a walk along the banks at Wandsworth is a great way to get acquainted with London landmarks. Wandsworth is home to a number of bridges spanning the Thames: Wandsworth Bridge, Albert Bridge, Putney Bridge, Battersea Bridge and Chelsea Bridge. Each bridge brings with it a fascinating history (Putney Bridge’s history spans back the furthest) and learning about these structures is a key to understanding the character of London.

Leisure

Southside Shopping Centre is home to Easygym fitness centre, where you can take part in Bodypump, Boxercise and other classes, including group exercise programmes, if you’re a fan of staying fit and healthy. You can also make use of the gym’s extensive equipment and weights area. If you’re serious about sport you can also visit PhysioEdge for an MOT and to manage your body’s needs as you exercise. Yoga Union offers both group and one-to-one yoga classes across Wandsworth and South London. In addition, you could sign up to one of their yoga retreats in sunny locations for a relaxing holiday! You can also joing Martial Arts & Yoga (MA&Y) who have 3 locations: in Wandsworth, Earlsfield and Wimbledon. There you will find amazing classes for both children and adults in yoga, martial arts and self-defense. For a more relaxed pursuit at Southside, head to the shopping centre’s 14 screen cinema (or of course, engage in some retail therapy).

For the lovers of the outdoors, Wandsworth Common and Tooting Bec Common provide cycling, walking and horse-riding routes as well as refreshment facilities and children’s play areas. Tooting Bec’s Lido is a much loved outdoor swimming pool which, believe it or not, attracts a devoted horde of swimmers even in the winter months.

There are a great many interesting arts and cultural venues and events in Wandsworth - of course the best way to discover these is to explore locally but our Wandsworth Estate Agents are always glad to give pointers. For art lovers, a visit to the annual Wandsworth Arts Festival and Fringe or to Wandsworth Arts Open House will be worthwhile; both events bring the best of the Wandsworth creative scene into one place. Battersea Arts Centre, formerly Wandsworth’s Town Hall, is now a beacon for the arts; theatre, visual arts and community events come together here. Pump House Gallery is another local gallery favourite, playing host to regular exhibitions and workshops.

James Pendleton is an amazing company. They have been a big part of me winning a bronze medal in Rio 2016 and have been so supportive with all my achievements, which wouldn't have been possible without them. They have given me so many opportunities, I am privileged to be associated with such fantastic people who give so much back to the local community.

Aaron
Having recently rented my property through James Pendelton, I can't recommend them highly enough. They walked me through the process and found me amazing tenants. From the first contact they were professional and informative. Thank you to Jacob, you were amazing. Thank you also to the Angel Department who, after realising I needed safely certificates, sorted everything out for me and made sure I had everything in order.
